North Carolina footballwide receiver Keeyun Chapman was arrested on a misdemeanor count for carrying a concealed handgun after being involved in a traffic stop on Tuesday, Sept. 16 in Chapel Hill with a teammate.
Tar Heels wide receiver C.J. Sadler was cited for speeding, according to police reports.
In a statement to The Fayetteville Observer, part of the USA TODAY Network, a UNC spokesperson said the university is aware of the incident but has "no further comment" at this time.
"We are aware of the incident involving UNC football student-athletes Tuesday night in Chapel Hill," the statement read. "We are cooperating fully with the University and local officials, and will
have no further comment while gathering additional information."
Both wide receivers were ruled "out" for North Carolina's Week 3 matchup against Clemson in the Tar Heels' initial player availability report, which was posted on the ACC's website on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Sadler has four receptions for 73 receiving yards in two games for North Carolina, while Chapman did not participate against TCU and East Tennessee State.
Citing the police report, The Fayetteville Observer noted that Sadler was speeding at 60-65 mph in a 35 mph zone in a black Cadillac Escalade, which was registered in his name. It was Sadler's third speeding ticket since August.
The Observer also noted there were approximately 15.1 grams of marijuana taken from the vehicle, which is more than half an ounce. In the state of North Carolina, possession of half an ounce or less is a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $200.
