Marriage isn't in the cards for Tyler Perry, not now or ever.
During a Sept. 14 appearance on "The Jennifer Hudson Show," the media mogul made it clear that walking down the aisle won't be part of his future. When host Jennifer Hudson, 45, asked Perry, 57, if he would ever get married, he responded "nope" without hesitation.
"It's not the marriage that bothers me, it’s the divorce. Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So, I’m good just being free," he explained.
Hudson even offered to sing at his wedding, breaking out in song, but the "Madea" actor was unmoved: "No."
"... What makes me think about marriage is, 'You’re no good, heartbreaker. You’re a liar. You’re a cheat. I don’t know why I let you do these
things to me.' That's what I think about," Perry added.
Perry, the creative force behind the "Why Did I Get Married?" film franchise, offered more clarity on "Today with Jenna & Sheinelle," citing age and his desire to slow down as reasons for not wanting to marry.
"When I wrote the first ['Why Did I Get Married Again?' movie], I thought, 'You know, marriage might be a good idea at some point.' But at this age, that’s not a good idea for me. So, no, there won’t be any marriage for me," he said.
Perry agreed that he scared himself out of getting married "by watching my own movie."
Tyler Perry's pulling back a 'whole lot' come next year
Moving forward, relaxation will be a top priority for Perry, who confirmed to "Today" reporter Justin Sylvester that he and his 11-year-old son Aman will relocate to Puerto Rico "at the top of the year."
"And I'm pulling back a whole lot," Perry said. "Getting older [inspired this]. It’s time to slow down a little bit, and enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in."
Perry shares Aman with ex-girlfriend Gelila Bekele, whom he dated from 2009 to 2020. The former couple never married.
Perry's announcement comes several months after he was accused of sexual misconduct by actors Derek Dixon and Mario Rodriguez in two lawsuits filed in 2025, allegations his lawyer previously described as "failed money grabs."
