The rich of European soccer may be getting richer.
Back-to-back UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain announced Saturday, Aug. 15, that they have completed a move for Ferran Torres.
The Spain forward vaulted to global fame this summer, scoring the winning goal in extra time of the World Cup final against Argentina. After the trophy celebrations, he embarked upon an international media tour that included him putting pressure on FC Barcelona to offer a new contract or sell.
The La Liga club has opted for the second option, with PSG announcing it has signed the 26-year-old on a deal that will keep him at the club through 2031.
"Since we won the World Cup, everything has happened very quickly. We barely had vacation to be able to take it
all in but ultimately in the world of soccer everything happens in a hurry," Torres said in an interview with PSG's official channels. "You have to get into the new season. This is a winning team, and I have to be able to be up to that level to help my teammates as much as possible and try to give this great fan base many joys."
Torres comes into a team without many weaknesses, especially in attack. Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, who moved from Barcelona to PSG in 2023, often led the line.
But Torres profiles as a more traditional central forward, freeing up Dembélé to play elsewhere on the field. Portugal international Goncalo Ramos was intended for that role but often became surplus for PSG manager Luis Enrique and was sold to AC Milan this summer after scoring in only six Ligue 1 matches
The move also could free up PSG to sell one their talented winger prospects, Bradley Barcola or Désiré Doué, to another club.
The forward scored 16 goals and had two assists in Barcelona's title-winning 2025-26 La Liga campaign.
"I am happy, of course. I think we are improving our team," Luis Enrique, who is Spanish, said at a news conference. "It has been a transfer window with players leaving, and right now it is important to find this type of player and we want to continue improving.
"We are always open to improving the team. That is our ambition."
PSG won the UEFA Super Cup during the week with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa and starts its Ligue 1 title defense Aug. 23 against Rennes. It begins its quest for a third consecutive Champions League crown in early September when league phase begins.
