The investigation into Hayden Panettiere's death at 36 years old has come to an end.
The Greenville Police Department in South Carolina said in a statement shared with USA TODAY on Oct. 28 that it "has concluded its investigation" into the circumstances of the "Nashville" star's Aug. 16 death.
"Based on the Medical Examiner’s determination and the findings of the investigation, Hayden Panettiere’s death has been ruled accidental," the public information officer wrote.
Panettiere was a former child actress best known for roles in film such as "Ice Princess," "Bring It On: All or Nothing" and installments in the "Scream" franchise," as well as TV shows including "Heroes" and "Ally McBeal."
Her on-and-off boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, and his brother,
Zach Hickerson, found her unresponsive at the South Carolina apartment complex where she was staying and called 911.
"EMS attempted to perform life saving methods for an extended amount of time before they called a time of death" at 2:31 p.m., an office wrote in a police report previously obtained by USA TODAY.
Panettiere was later found to have died from the combined "toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol and Quetiapine," according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
