More than 148,000 vehicles are being recalled due to concerns about a loss of control of driver functions that could increase the risk of a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall notice points to an issue with the wiring harness ground connections in certain Mustang vehicles.

It "may fracture and result in a loss of drive power, or a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan," the notice states.

Which models are potentially affected?

According to the NHTSA, 148,663 vehicles are potentially affected. The models included are:

2024-2026 Ford Mustang

The recall number is 26C40. The safety recall report says the driver can identify the issue if they

"experience an illuminated Check Engine Light (MIL), instrument cluster warning messages, or an audible chime."

What should car owners do next?

Car owners are advised to go to the dealership where the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals will be replaced at no charge.

Notification letters regarding the safety risk were mailed on Aug. 31. Ford customer service could be reached at 1-866-436-7332.

Ford recalls 10K cars over another issue

Ford also issued another recall for 10,001 vehicles citing an issue with the engine piston dome that "may have been manufactured incorrectly, according to the NHTSA. It could lead to loss of drive power, raising the risk of a crash.
