Deep Roots and an Elite Education
Ryan Mackenzie is a lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley, born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, with family roots in the area stretching back nine generations. After graduating from Parkland High School, he pursued higher education at prestigious institutions. Mackenzie earned a bachelor's degree with honors in finance and international business from New York University and later obtained a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Before entering elected office, he gained experience in both the public and private sectors, working at the U.S. Department of Labor and later as the policy director for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry. This background in finance and labor policy became a cornerstone of his future
legislative focus.
A Long Career in the Pennsylvania Statehouse
Mackenzie’s career in elected office began in 2012 when he won a seat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. For twelve years, he represented his Lehigh Valley constituents in Harrisburg, first in the 134th district and later in the 187th after redistricting. During his tenure, he became a prominent Republican voice on economic issues, serving as the chairman of the Labor & Industry Committee. He authored multiple laws focused on workforce development, tax policy, and government reform. His political lineage is also notable; his mother, Milou Mackenzie, also serves in the Pennsylvania House, and they were the first mother-son pair to serve concurrently in the state's history.
From State Legislator to U.S. Congressman
After a long career in state politics, Mackenzie set his sights on Washington. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 7th District in the November 2024 election, defeating incumbent Susan Wild. He assumed office in January 2025. His district, which covers Lehigh, Northampton, and Carbon counties, is known for being a highly competitive political battleground with nearly equal numbers of registered Democrats and Republicans. In Congress, Mackenzie secured seats on the influential committees for Education and the Workforce, Foreign Affairs, and Homeland Security. He also chairs the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, continuing his focus on labor and employment issues at the federal level.
Key Policy Stances and Campaign Platform
Mackenzie’s political platform aligns with mainstream Republican priorities, emphasizing economic growth, fiscal conservatism, and border security. His campaign messaging often highlights his commitment to lowering taxes, reducing inflation, and supporting small businesses. As a legislator, he has sponsored bills related to expanding affordable housing tax credits and has advocated for cracking down on congressional stock trading. On social issues, he has taken a conservative stance, stating his support for parental rights in schools and opposing the participation of transgender women in women's sports. In his current 2026 re-election campaign, he is running on his record as a freshman congressman, positioning himself as a common-sense conservative who can deliver results for a politically divided district.
