From a Difficult Start to Military Service
Jordan J. Herrera's story begins not in political circles but in a working-class environment in the Midwest. Born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, he has described his upbringing as marked by instability and hardship, an experience that he says showed him what happens when systems meant to protect families fail. Seeking a different path, Herrera joined the United States Air Force at nineteen and served for nearly sixteen years, from 2006 to 2022. This period of his life was transformative, defining his views on leadership and public service.
A Decorated Career in the Air Force
Herrera's time in the military was not just a job but a distinguished career. As a Biomedical Equipment Engineer, he led operations across more than 70 military installations around the globe, including deployments
in Iraq and Afghanistan. His responsibilities were significant, from managing multimillion-dollar budgets to overseeing medical logistics. His leadership was formally recognized multiple times, earning him Air Force awards in 2017, 2020, and 2021, on top of several annual awards. He also pursued higher education while serving, earning an associate degree from Air University and a bachelor's degree from Park University in 2020.
Transitioning to a Life in Law
After nearly sixteen years, the demands of active duty led Herrera to transition out of the military. He then pursued a legal career, enrolling in Southwestern Law School's accelerated SCALE program. He completed his Juris Doctor degree in just two years, focusing on constitutional law and civil justice. After law school, he continued his public service as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Missouri, a role where he advocated for Missourians in the courtroom. This experience, he says, reinforced his belief in using the law to stand up for people when the stakes are high.
The Run for Congress
In 2026, Jordan Herrera is the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Missouri's Fourth Congressional District. His campaign platform is heavily influenced by his life experiences. He frames himself as a public servant, not a politician, who understands the struggles of working families because he has lived them. His key priorities include lowering the cost of living, making healthcare and housing more affordable, and increasing government accountability. He emphasizes that his motivation for running is an extension of the service that has defined his entire adult life, from his time in uniform to his work as an attorney.
