From a Large Family to the U.S. Army
Mitchell Jacob, born in Tulsa, is a fourth-generation Oklahoman and one of nine children. His path has been anything but conventional. Before entering public service, he worked a series of jobs that gave him a broad view of the American economy, including stints as a stockbroker, banker, and mortgage loan originator. In 2017, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for five and a half years and achieved the rank of Sergeant. His military specialization was as a Cryptologic Linguist, a role that required intensive language training in Arabic at the Defense Language Institute in California. This period of service included a deployment to Southern Syria in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
A Diverse and Driven Educational Path
While building his professional and military
career, Jacob was also pursuing higher education. He earned an associate degree from Rio Salado College in 2016, followed by a bachelor's degree in government studies from Grand Canyon University in 2019. His military training also resulted in a second associate degree, this one in Arabic Studies. After transitioning out of the Army in May 2022, he completed his law degree at the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2025. Following his graduation, he began working as a public defender, representing indigent clients in the Oklahoma legal system.
The 2026 Congressional Campaign
On June 16, 2026, Mitchell Jacob won the Democratic primary for Oklahoma's 4th Congressional District. He is now on the ballot for the general election on November 3, 2026, where he will face incumbent Tom Cole. Jacob's campaign platform emphasizes fiscal responsibility, with a particular focus on reducing the national debt, which he calls the "biggest threat to our democracy". He also advocates for policies supporting small businesses, funding public education, and ensuring affordable healthcare access. A proud father of five, Jacob has built his campaign on grassroots engagement, even planning a post-primary bicycle tour through every county in the district to meet voters directly.
Personal Life and Motivations
Beyond his professional and political life, Jacob is an avid endurance athlete. He has competed in marathons, triathlons, and century rides. In a notable feat of determination in 2015, he bicycled from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Los Angeles and back. He resides in Newcastle, Oklahoma, with his wife and children. He has stated that his oath to defend the Constitution, first taken as a soldier, has no expiration date and continues to guide his commitment to public service and the rule of law.
