From Missouri Roots to a Political Voice
Chris Stigall was born in Richmond, Missouri, and his early life was shaped by family roots in agriculture. He graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in broadcasting and journalism. His path into media wasn't immediate; an early internship with the "Late Show with David Letterman" gave him a taste of television production, and he also spent time working as a press assistant for U.S. Representative Sam Graves. This stint in politics provided a foundational understanding of the world he would later cover extensively from behind a microphone. It was in Kansas City radio where Stigall first began to find his voice, initially working on music stations before transitioning into the political talk format that would define
his career.
Building a Career in Key Radio Markets
Stigall’s profile grew significantly when he took over the morning show at KCMO in Kansas City in 2006. There, he established himself as a go-to voice for conservative listeners in the heartland. His success led to a major move in 2010 to Philadelphia, one of the nation's largest media markets, to host the morning drive-time show on WPHT. For over eight years, he was a fixture of Philadelphia morning radio, dissecting local and national news. After departing WPHT in 2019, he quickly landed with Salem Media Group, hosting the morning show on Philadelphia's AM 990 The Answer and eventually launching a nationally syndicated show with the network in 2025. Throughout his career, he has been recognized by industry publications like Talkers Magazine as one of the most influential hosts in the country.
A Signature Style of Commentary
Listeners know Stigall for a style that blends desk-pounding monologues on political issues with humor, sarcasm, and personal anecdotes. His commentary is guided by his Christian faith and a populist-conservative worldview. A recurring theme in his work is a deep skepticism of government institutions and a strong advocacy for individual liberties. His interviews often make headlines and feature a wide range of guests, from politicians and authors to actors and athletes. Beyond the studio, Stigall and his wife are vocal proponents of school choice, hosting a podcast called “Making The Leap” in partnership with the Herzog Foundation to encourage parents to explore alternatives to public education.
From Radio Host to Political Candidate
In a move that mirrors his early career, Stigall has transitioned from commentator back to participant in the political process. He gave up his nationally syndicated radio show to run for public office. In March 2026, he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Missouri's 6th congressional district, the same district once represented by his former boss, Sam Graves. He won the Republican primary in August 2026 and is now the party's nominee for the seat in the U.S. House of Representatives for the November general election. This move places him among a number of media figures who have leveraged their public platforms to launch campaigns for political office.
