A Call to Service After 9/11
Evan Hunt’s military career began with the event that defined a generation: the September 11th attacks. Feeling a duty to serve, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, embarking on a 20-year journey in national security. This decision set the stage for a long career as a combat aviator and military leader. He started as a B-1 Bomber Weapons Systems Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer, roles that placed him directly in strategic operations. His path was not one of a career politician, but of a citizen who felt compelled to enter public service through the armed forces during a critical time in American history.
Two Decades as a Combat Aviator
Over his twenty years in uniform, Hunt rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service record includes multiple combat deployments
in support of major U.S. operations, including Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation New Dawn in Iraq, where he flew more than a dozen combat missions. Beyond his time in the cockpit, Hunt also took on key leadership and instructional roles. He served as an instructor at Red Flag, the Air Force's premier combat training exercise, helping to train the next generation of aviators. After active duty, he continued his service in the Air National Guard, holding leadership positions such as Squadron Commander and Deputy Group Commander before his retirement in 2022. For his service, he earned multiple awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal and Air Medals.
From the Military to the Boardroom
After retiring from the military, Hunt transitioned his expertise in defense and strategy to the private sector. He took on executive roles in the defense and aerospace industry, working for a range of companies from large, publicly traded corporations like Raytheon to private equity and venture-backed startups. This experience gave him a deep understanding of national security, emerging technologies, and global strategy, making him a respected voice within the defense innovation community. His work in this sector focused on the importance of smart economic policy and maintaining America's competitive edge on the global stage, particularly in technology and job creation in hubs like North Texas.
The Jump into Politics
Stating that he is not a career politician, Evan Hunt is now running as a Democrat for the U.S. House of Representatives in Texas's 3rd Congressional District. His campaign frames his candidacy as an effort to bring practical, mission-focused leadership to Washington and to counter what he terms "extremist agendas." He emphasizes his commitment to constitutional integrity and the rule of law. His platform focuses on representing the diverse communities of North Texas, expanding economic opportunities for families, and finding solutions that unite rather than divide. He has lived in Texas for over a decade, with the last six years in McKinney, where his children attend local public schools. This personal connection to the district is a cornerstone of his message, arguing that residents deserve a representative who understands the challenges they face firsthand.
Education and Background
Hunt's academic background complements his military and business experience. He earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania with a double major in History and Political Science, which included a year of study at the London School of Economics. While serving in the Air Force, he completed a Master's degree in International Relations & Conflict Resolution from the American Military University. This blend of military service, private sector leadership, and formal education shapes his approach to the complex challenges he aims to address in Congress, from national security to local economic growth.
