From the Classroom to the Commissioner's Office
Before entering the political arena, Bob Harvie spent 26 years as a high school social studies teacher, most of that time at Bucks County Technical High School. A lifelong resident of Bucks County, he was raised in Bristol Borough in a family that emphasized community service, which he has cited as a primary motivation for his career path. During his time as an educator, he chaired the Social Studies department and created a program called "Beyond the Books," which connected students with military veterans to share their life experiences. Harvie holds a bachelor's degree in history from George Washington University and a master's in education from Holy Family University.
A Long Record in Local Government
Harvie’s political career began at the local level in Falls Township, where
he moved in 1999. After a two-year stint on the township's Planning Commission, he was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2003. He would go on to be re-elected twice, serving as the chairman of the board from 2008 until 2020. His tenure as chairman is the longest in the history of Falls Township. During his time as a supervisor, he was credited with focusing on investing in local infrastructure and bringing a greater sense of professionalism to the township's government.
A Historic Win and County Leadership
In November 2019, Harvie was elected to the Board of Bucks County Commissioners, taking office in January 2020. This election was a landmark event, as it gave Democrats a majority on the board for the first time in nearly four decades. He was re-elected for a second term in November 2023. Within the commission, he has held leadership roles, including being named chair of the board in 2022 and vice-chair for 2026. As a commissioner, he also chairs the Bucks County Board of Elections and represents the county on several regional bodies, including the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.
Policy Stances and Congressional Ambitions
Harvie's political platform has often focused on economic issues affecting middle-class and working families. He supports raising the minimum wage, tax relief for the middle class, and investing in infrastructure and affordable housing. On environmental issues, he has championed a climate action plan for Bucks County and advocates for moving toward 100% renewable energy. In 2026, Harvie is running as a Democratic candidate for the U.S. House in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District, a highly competitive seat. After winning the Democratic primary on May 19, 2026, his campaign has gained national attention, earning a spot in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's 'Red to Blue' program, which identifies top-tier candidates in competitive races.
