A Familiar Name on the Ballot
Carmen Bucco is the Republican nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives in New Jersey's 10th Congressional District for the 2026 general election. If that sounds familiar, it should. This marks his third congressional bid in as many years. He previously ran and lost against Democratic incumbent LaMonica McIver in both the 2024 special and general elections. His political resume also includes unsuccessful runs for the New Jersey State Senate in 2023 and the General Assembly in 2025. This track record has led political observers to label him a "perennial candidate," one who runs for office frequently, often in long-shot races. Bucco has consistently run in a district considered the most Democratic in New Jersey, where he has faced steep electoral
odds.
From Foster Care to Business Owner
Bucco's political persistence is fueled by a dramatic personal history that forms the core of his public identity. His journey is a true rags-to-riches story. Growing up in the New Jersey foster care system, Bucco faced immense hardship, including periods of homelessness and struggles with drug addiction in his youth. According to his own accounts, he reached a turning point where he had to choose between becoming "a statistic or a part of society." With the help of friends, he chose the latter, starting his career from the ground up by shining shoes. He developed a passion for the apparel industry, teaching himself tailoring and the fundamentals of garment construction. This self-driven education eventually led him to found Bucco Couture, a successful custom menswear and tailoring business he has operated for over two decades.
The Entrepreneur and Philanthropist
Beyond the campaign trail, Bucco is a visible entrepreneur. His business, Bucco Couture, includes multiple locations and even a men's mobile store. He has also sought a larger platform for his business acumen, having tried out for television shows like Shark Tank and The Profit. His experiences in the foster system also inspired him to give back. In 2020, he established Bucco's Rising Stars Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting foster children, orphans, and other underserved youth. This philanthropic work is deeply connected to his personal narrative of overcoming adversity and achieving a version of the American Dream.
The Uphill Battle for Congress
Bucco’s current campaign in New Jersey’s 10th district is, by any measure, an uphill climb. The district has a Cook Partisan Voting Index of D+27, making it a Democratic stronghold. In his 2024 general election loss to Rep. McIver, he secured just over 22% of the vote. Despite these odds, Bucco's strategy involves directly appealing to Democratic voters by focusing on his personal story and his independent-minded approach. He has publicly stated that he doesn't work for national party figures, framing himself as a pragmatist who can find common ground. His platform often emphasizes support for law enforcement, Second Amendment rights, and addressing quality-of-life issues that he argues transcend party lines.
