Silver Price Today, April 17: Silver prices rose on Friday (April 17) as global investors stayed cautious, awaiting further developments in the Middle
East that could influence the outlook for precious metals. As of 9:40 am am, spot gold rose by 0.8 per cent, trading at around USD 79. Silver prices were also on track to post a weekly gain of over 3 per cent. In the domestic market, silver futures gained 0.6 per cent, gaining by Rs 1,463 to settle at Rs 2,50,091. Over the past week, precious metal prices have strengthened following reports that talks between the US and Iran may resume, after earlier discussions held on April 11–12 in Islamabad did not produce any significant outcomes. Meanwhile, the US dollar remained relatively stable but was headed for a weekly decline, dropping about 0.6 per cent over the week and roughly 1.5 per cent over the past month. A weaker dollar generally supports gold prices, as it makes the metal more affordable for buyers using other currencies and enhances its appeal as a hedge against currency depreciation. In another geopolitical update, a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah has come into effect, easing tensions in the region. On the energy front, crude oil prices dropped sharply after the US announced the ceasefire, boosting hopes of stability in the Middle East. The benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was set for a significant weekly decline. Lower oil prices can benefit gold by reducing inflationary pressures, which in turn raises the likelihood of interest rate cuts, providing additional support to the precious metal despite its traditional role as an inflation hedge.
