What is the story about?
Today Silver Price, April 9: Silver prices fell on Thursday, April 9, on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) as a stronger US dollar limited gains for the precious
metal. Easing geopolitical tensions, however, helped prevent a sharper decline. As of 9:35 am, May silver futures were down 1.2 per cent at Rs 2,37,150. International spot silver traded largely flat at USD 74.15, after reaching its highest level since March 18 in the previous session.
US dollar strength puts pressure on silver
The US dollar gained 0.1 per cent, trading above 99. A stronger dollar generally makes silver more expensive for foreign buyers, capping potential gains in the precious metal.Geopolitical developments boost market sentiment
US President Donald Trump announced via social media on Tuesday a two-week suspension of military action against Iran, citing that the US had achieved its core objectives. This statement came just hours before Tehran’s 20:00 ET deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.Following the news, oil prices dropped below USD 100, increasing the likelihood of interest rate cuts, an outcome favourable for precious metals like silver.
Market focus shifts to inflation data
Investors are now turning attention to key inflation indicators later this week, including the PCE Index on Thursday and CPI data on Friday.Minutes from the Federal Reserve’s March 17–18 meeting indicated that more policymakers see potential for rate hikes to tackle persistent inflation above the 2 per cent target. The Iran conflict was also mentioned as a contributing factor, according to Reuters.
