Polk County's Charlie Wagoner makes eight saves to lead Week 3 WNC fall sports top performers

The 2026 Western North Carolina high school fall sports season is in full swing, entering Week 3.

Here are the top performers from Western North Carolina for this week. This list is compiled from information submitted to the Citizen Times at [e-mail] or [e-mail], as well as information posted on MaxPreps or social media. It will be updated throughout the week.

Volleyball

Leighton Baldwin, Asheville Christian Academy: Baldwin racked up 21 digs in a 3-1 win vs. Polk County.

Olivia Johnson, Asheville Christian Academy: Johnson had 17 kills in the win.

Reece Shuman, Asheville Christian Academy: Shuman recorded 21 kills and 20 digs in the win.

Aug. 24

Soccer

Alstin Gwyn, Avery County: Gwyn scored two goals in a 5-0 win vs. East Wilkes.

Conner Pearson, Enka: Pearson had two goals in a 5-2 win vs. Pisgah.

Gael Sanchez, North Buncombe: Sanchez recorded a hat trick in a 9-0 win vs. Mitchell.

Luis Mendoza-Resendiz, Pisgah: Mendoza-Resendiz tallied two goals in a 5-2 loss vs. Enka.

Jackson Blotner, Polk County: Blotner racked up a hat trick and added an assist in a 4-0 win vs. East Henderson.

Charlie Wagoner, Polk County: Wagoner made eight saves in the shutout victory.

Porter DeVane, West Henderson: DeVane racked up two goals in a 3-1 win vs. Hendersonville.

Volleyball

Drea Cutshaw, Andrews: Cutshaw racked up 26 assists in a 3-1 loss vs. Cherokee.

Juliet Holloway, Andrews: Holloway recorded 15 kills and 27 digs in the loss.

Sadie Mustin, Andrews: Mustin tallied 16 kills and four digs in the defeat.

Caleigh Ray, Avery County: Ray had 10 digs and three blocks in a 3-0 win vs. Johnson City (Tenn.).

Halle Alexander, Mountain Heritage: Halle Alexander tallied 19 assists and four digs in a 3-0 win vs. East Burke.

Holland Alexander, Mountain Heritage: Holland Alexander collected 17 assists and six digs in the victory.

Maggie Neill, Mountain Heritage: Neill racked up 15 kills, a block and six digs in the win.

Scout Belue, Pisgah: Belue recorded nine kills, four aces, three blocks and eight digs in a 3-0 win vs. Enka.
