Roughly 250 Starbucks locations are set to close this week, with at least 225 closures already confirmed across North America.
A report released through the Starbucks website under the name of CEO Mike Grams on Sept. 24 announced the news that roughly 250 Starbucks coffeehouses would be closed later, representing about 1% of the chain's more than 18,000 North American locations.
"We have carefully reviewed our North America coffeehouse portfolio and identified locations where we do not believe we can consistently deliver the experience we want for customers and partners or where we don’t see a path to acceptable financial performance," Grams said in the release.

Are Starbucks stores closing?
The recent round of closures is part of the chain's "Back to Starbucks" strategy announced in 2024, which promised to make coffeehouses "feel like Starbucks again." According to other recent updates, this has included bringing back cup writing, condiment bars, ceramic mugs and free refills, as well as returning "warmth and personality" to Starbucks locations.
Which Starbucks locations closed in North Carolina?
According to reporting from business news website FastCompany.com, four Starbucks locations in Charlotte and Winston-Salem have already closed:
- Gateway Village: 800 W. Trade St., Charlotte, NC 28202
- 9335 N. Tryon St., Charlotte, NC 28262
- 2015 Frontis Plaza Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103
- 2309 Winterhaven Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103
Where are Starbucks stores closing?
According to FastCompany, states where the most Starbucks locations have closed so far include California with 65 stores closed, New York with 17 and Texas with 14.

At least 225 Starbucks locations have already been confirmed closed, according to FastCompany.
As the report from Starbucks, approximately 250 locations would close; it is possible that further locations will be shuttered in the days to come. However, as no official list of stores set to close was released by the company, it is uncertain whether North Carolina will see further closures beyond the four already confirmed.
