ASHEVILLE - A pedestrian was killed by a vehicle on Tunnel Road in Asheville Thursday night, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Officers responded to the 1140 block of Tunnel Road to investigate a wreck at around 8:15 p.m. Sept. 10, police said in a news release Sept. 15.
According to the release, a 2016 Nissan Rogue was traveling east on Tunnel Road through a green light at the Riceville Road intersection when it struck a pedestrian. The person was transported to Mission Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Police declined to release any information about who the person was because the department is trying to find next of kin.
The driver remained at the scene. The death remains under investigation. Once the investigation is
complete, officers will consult with the Buncombe County District Attorney’s Office regarding whether charges will be filed.
There have been five fatal wrecks involving pedestrians this year, APD spokesperson Rick Rice said.
No further information was released.
