State Farm has announced it will issue $5 billion worth of dividend payments to its customers this summer. But don't expect a lot of money.
The $5 billion worth of dividends is being paid as part of a one-time cash-back dividend for customers, the company announced. State Farm has described the payout as the largest dividend in the company's more than 100-year history.
"As a mutual company with a customer-first focus, State Farm Mutual is able to provide value directly to our customers while maintaining financial strength to keep our promises in the future," State Farm Mutual President and CEO Jon Farney said in a statement. "That translated this year to lower auto rates and cash back in the form of a $5 billion policyholder dividend."
According
to previous reporting from the USA TODAY network, some customers have already received payments, with more to come. Here's what you have to do to get a part of the refund in North Carolina.
How much will State Farm dividend payments be?
As previously reported by USA TODAY, payments will average about $100 per vehicle, varying by state and premiums paid.
Who qualifies for State Farm's dividend payments?
State Farm auto customers who had an active personal car insurance policy in 2025 will receive payments, according to a State Farm statement. The company added that owners of more than 49 million auto vehicles across its network will receive payments.
How to get a State Farm dividend payment
State Farm has explained that customers who qualify for dividend payments will receive an email or letter notifying them about their pending payment. Because of the number of policies involved, the company expects the nationwide distribution process to take several months.

State Farm has not announced an exact date for payments, but they are expected to be issued this summer. Reporting from the USA TODAY network noted that some customers have already received payments.

A 2024 report from the N.C. Department of Insurance noted that State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Co. wrote over 1.52 million direct premiums in North Carolina during 2024, recording 1.48 million direct premiums earned, 961,576,054 direct losses paid, and almost 1 million direct losses incurred, a market share of 5.764%.
