The 2026 North Carolina High School Athletic Association girls tennis season got underway on Aug. 10.
Western North Carolina returns several All-WNC members, including last year's player of the year.
With the season just beginning, the Citizen Times and Times-News want to highlight the top 10 WNC high school girls tennis players to watch this season.
Lila Hipp
Brevard | Junior
Hipp put together a 15-2 record as Brevard's No. 2 singles player
Sophie Owen
Brevard | Sophomore
Owen recorded a 16-1 record in the No. 1 spot for the Blue Devils. She earned the top seed in the NCHSAA
4A individual state tournament before falling in the semifinals. Owen is the reigning All-WNC Player of the Year.
Selah Frisbee
Carolina Day | Senior
Frisbee had a 6-2 record as Carolina Day's No. 4 singles player. She and her doubles partner Klutke went undefeated at 12-0 as the No. 2 doubles pairing.
Faye Klutke
Carolina Day | Senior
Klutke went an undefeated 12-0 as the Wildcats' No. 2 singles player. She helped Carolina Day reach the NCISAA 3A state championship match.
Canaan Scroggs
Hendersonville | Senior
Scroggs helped the Bearcats go 12-3 and reach the NCHSAA 3A state finals. She had an 11-4 record as Hendersonville's No. 3 singles player.
Natalia Cogdill
North Buncombe | Senior
Cogdill went 10-3 as the No. 2 singles player for the Black Hawks. She and her doubles partner Aubrey Gilliland reached the semifinals of the NCHSAA 5A doubles state tournament.
Madalynne Phillips
Owen | Junior
Phillips recorded an 8-6 record as Owen's No. 1 singles player. She qualified for the NCHSAA 3A individual state tournament.
Zoe Lynch
Roberson | Senior
Lynch collected a 9-2 record in the No. 2 position for the Rams. She helped the team reach the fourth round of the NCHSAA 6A dual team playoffs. She had a 13-1 record in doubles last season.
Lydia Renfro
Roberson | Sophomore
Renfro compiled a 7-2 record as Roberson's No. 3.
Madi Burleson
West Henderson | Senior
Burleson compiled a 14-3 record as the top singles player for West Henderson. She helped the Falcons reach the fourth round of the NCHSAA 5A dual team playoffs.
