A man from Western North Carolina has taken home the Cash 5 jackpot in North Carolina.
In a news release from the N.C. Education Lottery, jackpot winner Johnnie Biddix Jr. said he planned to use his winnings to take his twin grandsons on a cruise vacation. The ticket was purchased in Flat Rock.
“I’m shocked, to say the least,” Biddix said.
According to the N.C. Education Lottery website, Henderson County received state funding totaling over $5.7 million last year from the lottery for educational programs. Here's how the win happened.
Hendersonville man wins North Carolina lottery
According to the N.C. Education Lottery news release, Biddix Jr. of Hendersonville was on his way to go fishing when he won the Cash 5 jackpot by correctly guessing the numbers of all five white Cash 5 balls. The odds
of his win were 1 in 962,598.
“I’m shocked, to say the least,” said Biddix in the news release.

Biddix Jr.'s jackpot was worth $436,796. After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $314,537.

Each Cash 5 play is $1, with EZ Match or Double Play available for an additional $1 per play. For a basic Cash 5 game, matching two white balls is worth a prize of $1, three balls is worth $5, four balls is worth $250 and five balls is worth the jackpot.
The next Cash 5 drawing takes place Friday, Sept. 18, at 11:22 p.m. for a possible jackpot of $130,000.
