MARSHALL - The person hospitalized following an officer-involved shooting in Marshall Sept. 3 has been identified.
James Anthony Gross, 37, of Marshall, was shot in the left wrist around 9:41 p.m. Sept. 3, as deputies were attempting to apprehend him, according to North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Chad Flowers.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office said deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant to Gross at 1934 Sandy Mush Road. He is wanted for a federal parole violation and felony fleeing to elude.
According to court documents, Gross is charged with two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, as well as three misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer.
Gross is being held in the Madison
County Detention Center on a $400,000 secured bond. He was due in court in Madison County at 9 a.m. Sept. 16.
The SBI is investigating the incident on a full assistance case, meaning the agency handles every aspect of the case, Flowers said.
