ASHEVILLE - A leader at the Omni Grove Park Inn once convicted of driving drunk and killing a newspaper carrier in 2008 has been arrested in Asheville by U.S. marshals and extradited to Nevada, where he was accused of violating the terms of his probation.
William Fredrick Bierlein, 54, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Nevada on Sept. 3 after an arrest by the U.S. Marshal Service on a governor's warrant.
Nevada-based media outlets reported that Bierlein was wanted in Nevada for violating the terms of his probation.
Bierlein came under investigation in Nevada in December 2008, when he was accused of running a red light while driving a 2003 BMW Z4 convertible that ran into another vehicle, killing 31-year-old Alejandro San Pedro.
San Pedro was a newspaper carrier for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Bierlein was convicted in March 2012 of causing a death while driving under the influence, Nevada court records show.
According to his LinkedIn account, Bierlein worked at the Omni Grove Park Inn as the resort's director of Food and Beverage.
The Omni Grove Park Inn did not respond to an email from the Citizen Times Sept. 8.
