In the wake of Dolly Parton's death, President Donald Trump has ordered flags to be lowered across the United States to honor the legendary singer.
The news of Parton's death spread rapidly after her nephew, Bryan Seaver, made the announcement of her death on her social media pages. "Dolly has lived in the light, and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by (her husband) Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens," he said in the video.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce the honor for the country music icon and say a few words about her influence.
"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away.
This is a true loss for millions of people. There has never been anyone like her, and never will," Trump wrote. "In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one-week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you."

In the wake of Parton's death at 80, Trump ordered flags across the U.S. to be lowered beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and that they will remain lowered for one week, which would be Tuesday, Sept. 2.

There has been no cause of death released as of 3 p.m. on Aug. 25. Parton had been dealing with a number of health issues over the last year that caused her tocancel several performances and appearances.
Why do flags fly at half-staff?
According to USA.gov, the U.S. flag flies at half-staff or at half-mast when the nation or a state is in mourning.
The flag can be ordered to fly at half-staff by the president, a state governor, or the mayor of the District of Columbia.

Flags at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities, naval vessels, and stations, will also be flown at half-staff.
