ASHEVILLE - In USA TODAY Network food writers' nationwide search for diners' favorite pizzerias, a North Asheville restaurant was voted to be one of the best.
In a readers' choice poll, 828 Family Pizzeria
rose to the top to become the winner with the most votes.
The fourth-generation family pizza makers operate the beloved neighborhood establishment, which opened in 1994 and was founded by Marco Lacagnina. The retired restaurateur's sons, Brian and Dominic Lane, and wife Christine Lane, still use recipes crafted by the original pizza guru, the sons' great-great-uncle Patsy, who founded Patsy's Pizzeria in Harlem, New York, in 1933.

Neighbors are more like family members gathering in a warm, inviting, old-school pizzeria where adults are comfortable kicking back, relaxing, and having as much fun as the kids while throwing back slices. The hospitality of the 828 Family Pizzeria staff makes guests feel welcome to pull up a seat at the table.
Signature and classic pies are made with toppings aplenty for custom-build options and layering, so no bite lacks the full flavor of the creation.
The menu also features calzones, stromboli, salads, pasta, and more freshly made savory and sweet dishes, all priced reasonably. One can't go wrong when it's all made with scratch-made sauces and original, passed-down recipes.
