ASHEVILLE - A man was shot and killed by Asheville police in the early morning hours of Aug. 27, according to the Asheville Police Department.
Asheville police officers went to 45 Nancy Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. in response to multiple reports of a break-in at a residence, APD said in a news release.
Additional callers said that they could hear yelling and that a man had entered the home.
When they arrived, police saw signs that someone had forced entry into the home, and inside, they encountered a man armed with a knife, the news release said.
After the man allegedly refused multiple commands to drop the knife, officers opened fire, the news release said.
The man was taken to Mission Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
His name was not
released.
No officers were injured during the encounter.
