To determine the most and least stressed states, WalletHub gave each state a ranking out of 100 possible points. Metrics included in this ranking were work-related stress; money-related stress; family-related stress; and health- and safety-related stress.

WalletHub is a personal finance company that provides consumers with tools to improve credit scores, compare credit card offers and personal loans and gain a "holistic picture" of their financial health. The company also conducts studies, including recent studies covered by the Citizen Times that placed North Carolina in the top 10 state economies countrywide, ranked the best and worst states to live in, measured how

Overall, the Tar Heel State ranked close to the middle when it came to stress. Its overall rank was No. 35 out of 100, with a total score of 41.6 points out of a possible 100.

Its individual rankings across WalletHub's key metrics included No. 38 for work-related stress, No. 24 for money-related stress and No. 34 for both family-related and health-related/safety-related stress.
