A North Carolina-based meat company has issued a recall on more than 160,000 pounds of raw meats, including pork, beef and goat.
Star Meat Delivery Inc., a company located in Lucama, issued the recall Sept. 22 on a total of 167,639 pounds of products from A&D Foods after it was discovered they were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, bearing labels with a false mark of inspection from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
A real mark on meat products indicates inspection by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, described on its website as being "part of a national science-based system to ensure food safety and food defense." Food safety is ensured by FSIS through the authorities of the Federal Meat Inspection Act, the Poultry
Products Inspection Act and the Egg Products Inspection Act.
The FSIS also ensures that humane animal handling methods are being used in accordance with the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.

Raw pork, beef and goat items were produced on various dates before Sept. 22. The recalled meat was sold in "various weight cardboard boxes containing individually vacuum-packed A&D Foods" under the following categories:
- Goat cut 1-1/2" 10 lbs
- Goat burn skin on cut 1-1/2" 10 lbs
- Slice ribeye 4oz 10 lbs
- Beef chuck thin sliced kbq 4 mm 20 lbs
- Beef oxtail cut 10 lbs
- Beef short ribs, sliced, 3/8" regular 10 lbs
- Shanks bone-in cut 1.5 10 lbs
- Pork ground 10 lbs
- Pork chorizo 10 lbs
- Pork chop b/i 10 lbs
- Pork feet cut 8 pcs 10 lbs
- Pork feet cut 6 pcs 10 lbs
- Pork rib pieces prem 1" 10 lbs
- Pork boston diced 10 lbs
- Pork boston slice 1 inch 20 lbs
- Menudo mix 30 lbs
- Pork boston thin sliced 3.5mm 20 lbs
- Pork hock sliced 10 lbs
- Beef ribs 4-bone 2" c. cut p/caldo
- Beef short rib thin sliced
- Pork boston butt sliced 4mm
- Beef short ribs sld 3/8" premium c. cut

The recalled meats are from a brand that sells to retail locations and restaurants nationwide.
Why is meat being recalled?
The recall was issued after it was discovered that the products bear false marks of inspection with establishment number "EST. 1363," which does not have a federal grant of inspection.
What to do if you bought recalled meat
According to the recall notice, the FSIS is "concerned that some product may be in the refrigerators or freezers" of U.S. consumers, restaurants or retailers. The notice urged consumers who have purchased the products not to consume them, and to instead throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Retailers and restaurants were also urged not to sell or serve any remaining products.
