ASHEVILLE - A fire started on the roof at the Flat Iron Hotel in downtown Asheville on Monday night Sept. 14, causing the hotel to be evacuated, the Asheville Fire Department said.
The Asheville Fire Department went to the hotel at about 10:45 p.m. in response to a report of a fire in the flume on the roof of the hotel, a metal duct that vents exhaust, fire department spokesperson John Harbin said.
While the hotel was evacuated, most of the fire damage was confined to the flume, Harbin said.
Firefighters were at the hotel for just over an hour, Harbin said.
Nobody was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire was at least the second in Asheville in 24 hours. Earlier Monday,the former location of the White Duck TacoShop
in the River Arts District burned.
