ASHEVILLE - For those of us living in Asheville and the greater Western North Carolina, 828 is more than an area code ― it's a way of life.
And Aug. 28, known as 828 Day around these parts, is a time to let your pride for the region shine brightest, while having fun and catching great deals, specials and prizes along the way.
This weekend, many local establishments will host DJ-led parties, a neighborhoodwide scavenger hunt and offer other entertainment and experiences as a way to say "thanks" to the locals who've stuck with them through the good and bad times.
"We wouldn’t be here without our regulars and our fans, and while the tourist booms are very helpful to small businesses around here, I don’t think any of us ever take for granted the value
of our locals first and foremost," Corina Casanova, co-owner of Archetype Brewing, told the Citizen Times in an email.
Casanova said she is grateful her craft beer brewery will participate in the Heart of West Asheville's communitywide 828 Day celebration because it allows her team to honor residents and bring their gratitude to the forefront.
Here's how you can express your love for the mountains you call home at these 828 Day events.
