Casa Grande police arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with a shooting that left an 18-year-old teen dead outside a house party, the department said.
The boy was arrested early Sept. 20, hours after the shooting that killed Joseph Castro near Trekell and Rodeo roads, police said in a statement the following day. He was booked into the Pinal County Juvenile Detention Facility.
The department said it was forwarding charges to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office for review, including first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct with a firearm, minor in possession of a firearm and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
Police did not identify the arrested boy.
Evidence indicated additional suspects were involved, but
police did not specify how many other suspects detectives were seeking or describe the evidence pointing to their involvement.
Detectives used automated Flock license plate readers to locate a vehicle linked to the shooting, according to the statement. Officers stopped the vehicle and took its 16-year-old driver into custody without incident, police said.
Officers initially responded about 1:20 a.m. Sept. 20 to multiple reports of gunfire outside the home, according to the department.
Officers found Castro dead outside the home with multiple apparent gunshot wounds, police said. A house party was taking place at the home, police earlier said.
Police did not explain what led to the shooting or whether Castro knew the 16-year-old or any other suspects.
