Police are trying to find a motive behind what they said was a violent kidnapping by a trio in Flagstaff.
According to Flagstaff police, Cesar Barrandey, 35, Jose Barrandey, 46, and Kimberly Santos, 39, all of Flagstaff, were charged on suspicion of four felonies:
- kidnapping
- aggravated robbery
- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- aggravated assault by two or more persons
Detectives started an investigation Sept. 21 on a reported kidnapping that began in the area of Lynx Lane and Hidden Hills Road, according to Flagstaff police spokesperson Sgt. J.L. Rintala.
The victim was forcibly taken a little more than 3 miles west to a home on East Blizzard Way near U.S. 89, where he was restrained, repeatedly assaulted and threatened with firearms, Rintala said.
The suspects later released the victim, Rintala added.
Police, in coordination with federal authorities,
apprehended the three suspects at Blizzard Way and at South Lake Mary Road near East Zuni Drive, according to Rintala. Multiple firearms were seized during related search warrants, Rintala said.
Jose Barrandey was booked on an outstanding felony warrant from Yavapai County, Rintala said.
"The motive for the incident remains under investigation," Rintala said in an email.
