The Valley will get a new route to Germany, launching nearly three years after a court ruling ended a different German route.
Lufthansa will debut service between Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Munich, Germany via Franz Josef Strauss International Airport in summer 2027.
The new service will mark the first direct connection between Phoenix and a Lufthansa Group hub, according to Lufthansa, the German flag carrier. Phoenix aviation officials expect the new route will have an $81.2 million annual economic impact.
"The addition of this new nonstop service from Phoenix to Munich is a win for our residents, our businesses and the community as a whole," Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a statement. "Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of the best
airports in the country, and Phoenix is a destination of choice for international tourism and investment."
German carrier Condor Airlines previously operated flights between Phoenix and Frankfurt, Germany, but Condor cut the route in December 2024 after a German federal court ruling that limited Condor's ability to connect to Lufthansa's flights.
The new route will add to Phoenix's growing roster of long-haul international routes that include London via American Airlines and British Airways, Paris via Air France and Taipei, Taiwan via China Airlines and Starlux Airlines. Airport officials are optimistic that Sky Harbor's upcoming American-anchored West Terminal could bolster long-haul international service from Phoenix.
When will Phoenix Sky Harbor's flights to Munich begin?
The new Phoenix-Munich flights will begin flying on Aug. 3, 2027.
Flights will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Lufthansa's new Phoenix route will connect both vacationers and business travelers with nonstop service to Germany and connections to "onward destinations across our network," said Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group Vice President of Passenger Sales in the Americas.
"The U.S. is the most important market for Lufthansa, outside of our home markets, and the addition of Phoenix to our route network certainly displays our strong commitment to the region," he said.
The route will operate aboard an Airbus A350-900 with a three-class configuration. The 293-seat jet includes 48 business class seats, 21 premium economy seats and 224 economy seats.
Flights will leave Munich at 1:20 p.m., arriving in Phoenix at 4 p.m. and then depart Phoenix at 5:50 p.m., arriving the next day in Munich at 1:25 p.m.
How much will nonstop flights from Phoenix to Munich cost?
Starting fares for nonstop flights from Phoenix to Munich range from $631 to $710 one-way.
The lowest prices are under Lufthansa's Economy Light fare, which includes one personal item and one carry-on bag. Passengers who book the fare can add checked luggage and seat selection in advance for an additional fee.
