Virginia-headquartered engineering contractor Amentum is planning to shed 75 workers in Chandler, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification published Aug. 21.
The company did not respond to requests for comment about the reason for the cuts. Amentum works around the United States and internationally as a space and defense contractor. Amentum does not list Chandler among its "key locations" online.
The address included in the notification is the same as Intel's Ocotillo campus. It's currently unclear if a contract exists between Intel and Amentum. A spokesperson for Intel declined to provide additional details.
Under the WARN Act, employers with at least 100 full-time employees have to give workers 60 days' notice of layoffs under
certain circumstances. That includes if the company plans to close a site with 50 or more workers, lay off more than 500 workers, or lay off between 50 and 499 workers if that makes up at least a third of the site's employment.
According to the Arizona Job Connection, even exempt employers are encouraged to notify their crews of impending layoffs.
