Right fielder Corbin Carroll is expected back in the lineup on Friday night, Sept. 11, for the Diamondbacks’ series opener against the Texas Rangers at Chase Field, manager Torey Lovullo told SiriusXM.
Carroll was out of the lineup the past three games as he dealt with what was called “low back discomfort.” He underwent an MRI on his back on Thursday, Sept. 10.
“We got the best news possible yesterday,” Lovullo said. “There is some discomfort in there, but it’s all very treatable. In true Corbin fashion, he said he wants to play.
"I gave him the option of being the designated hitter today and he said, ‘Absolutely not. I want to go full throttle. It’s go time.’”
Carroll told The Arizona Republic earlier this week that he has been dealing with back
issues off and on since April. This bout with discomfort started during the team’s series against the Philadelphia Phillies last week.
The Diamondbacks could use the contributions of a healthy Carroll to get their offense going again. They are hitting just .219 with a .613 OPS while averaging 3.1 runs per game over the past 16 games.
