A Tucson man stands accused of netting more than $100,000 from his late mother's government benefits within a five-year period.
Ruffin Alford III, 48, was indicted in suspicion of theft of government benefits in September by a federal grand jury, according to a news release by the U.S. Attorney's Office. Alford retained $104,013 in Social Security benefits issued to his deceased mother's bank account, according to the news release.
Alford's mother appears to have been a Tuscon resident who died in October 2020 at the age of 67, according to publicly available information.
Alford faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted, the press released noted. Alford is slated to appear in court Sept. 25, the press release added.
