Arizona State men's basketball coach Randy Bennett has his second four-star recruit in as many weeks.
This time, 6-foot-7-inch forward Howard Williams of Dynamic Prep in Dallas is committing to the new Sun Devils. He is the second recruit from the 2027 cycle, following Carson Crawford of Fleming Island (Fla.), who did so on Sept. 2.
Williams chose ASU out of 12 offers, including fellow Big 12 schools TCU and Oklahoma State, as well as Washington, California, Illinois and Kentucky. He also visited Washington and had one planned for TCU on Sept. 18.
Williams was slotted as the No. 44 player in the 247Sports composite ranking and was No. 56 on the SC Next 100. He was listed as the No. 45 overall prospect and No. 10 small forward according to the Rivals
Industry Ranking.
At Dynamic Prep in Dallas, he is coached by Jermaine O’Neal, who played for the Phoenix Suns in 2012-13. It is a high-performance private program founded by O'Neal in 2022.
"I decided to commit to ASU because they treated me like a priority from the beginning," Williams told Rivals. "They showed me how I will fit into the program. I believe in the vision that they have set for me, and I feel like ASU is the place I can develop and reach my goal to be in the NBA. My relationship with the coaching staff is very strong. They have been consistent since the beginning and always kept it real with me. I trust them with my development and future."
ASU is looking to rebound from a 14-13 finish in the last season of the 11-year Bobby Hurley era.
The addition of two four-star players for the 2027 cycle seems to have ASU trending in a better direction.
