What is the story about?

The Seattle Seahawks have ruled out starting quarterback Sam Darnold for the NFL Week 2 game on Sept. 20, 2026, against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported that Seattle doesn't plan to put Darnold on the IR.

Darnold's injury is located in his right glute. He got hurt very early in the Seahawks' 13-10 win over the New England Patriots in NFL Week 1 on Sept. 9, and was replaced by Drew Lock, his backup QB.

Darnold was 1-for-2 for 13 yards before exiting.

Lock, who appears in line to start for the Seahawks against the Cardinals, went 16-for-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown pass in the win for the Seahawks. He also rushed two times for 13 yards.

NFL Week 2 odds: Lions

The Seahawks also have QB Jalen Milroe, a second-year player out of Alabama, on the roster.

The Cardinals and Seahawks are both 1-0 on the season, with Arizona upsetting the Los Angeles Chargers, 26-14, on the road in Week 1.

The NFL Week 2 game is Arizona's home opener. It is scheduled to start at 1:25 p.m. MST.
