Glendale police exchanged gunfire with a barricaded suspect near 75th and Glendale avenues during the late afternoon of Aug. 12, the agency announced.
Police notified neighbors to shelter in place as the situation remained active as of 5 p.m., according to Glendale police spokesperson Kristen Taffe. Police vehicles were struck by projectiles during the confrontation, Taffe added.
Television news broadcasts showed a SWAT type vehicle knocking down rear walls of the home. Damaged second story windows also could be seen.
It wasn't immediately clear what led to the confrontation, how many officers fired their weapons or whether the suspect fired at officers first.
There have been at least 54 police shootings in Arizona this year, according to information
tracked by The Arizona Republic.
