You may want to double-check the meat products in your fridge.
About 1.5 million pounds of meat and poultry products were recalled due to "temperature abuse during storage," according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service said that the 1,584,361 pounds of meat and poultry products were from Kayem Foods, a family-owned craft meat business that sells meat and poultry under multiple brands. The Oct. 17 announcement stated that the recall was initiated after a retail customer complaint that the products they received were warm when delivered.
Recalled products include hot dogs and bacon, as well as other products sold under different brands, and were produced between March
31 and Oct. 7.
FoodSafety.gov states that perishable food should never be kept out of refrigeration for more than two hours. A refrigerator should be set to 40 degrees or below and a freezer to 0 degrees or below. Bacteria that cause food poisoning multiply the quickest between 40 degrees and 140 degrees.
No illnesses related to the recall have been reported, but inspectors were concerned that consumers may still have the products at home.
