A small airplane crashed near Chandler Municipal Airport on the evening of July 28, according to police officials.
Chandler officers received reports just before 8 p.m. about a downed aircraft in a commercial area just south of Queen Creek Road, police spokesperson Ryan Cody said in an email.
Police found a single aircraft on the ground at the scene. Chandler police did not release any details about a pilot or passengers, but local news outlets reported that one person died.
There was no ongoing danger to the public and no traffic restrictions in the area, Cody said in an email.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration, according to police.
