A "Gilbert Goons" member charged in the gang killing of Preston Lord is due back in court for an Oct. 7 evidentiary hearing where a judge will weigh whether to revoke his release conditions following his third arrest since being out of custody on a $1 million bond.
Tempe police arrested Talyn Vigil, 20, and another man Sept. 17 on misdemeanor reckless driving and exhibition of speed charges after officers said they witnessed the men racing motorcycles near Arizona State University. He was previously arrested in 2025 on charges of violating an order of protection and in February 2026 on a reckless driving charge involving a dirt bike.
Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Cindi Nannetti revoked Vigil's driving privileges during his Sept.
18 initial appearance and imposed an additional $5,000 bond.
Vigil was released from custody on $1 million bond in 2024 after being charged in connection with the gang killing of 16-year-old Preston Lord.
Hearing on release conditions previously delayed
Maricopa County prosecutor Ryan Green was prepared to have victims address the court about Vigil's recent arrest and potential revocation of his house arrest during an Oct. 1 hearing, but Judge Sam Myers said doing so would be premature as prosecutors hadn't established whether Vigil had actually violated his release conditions.
Green said he didn't envision having to offer additional evidence about Vigil's arrest as he believed few facts were under dispute and noted that pretrial services had also filed a petition seeking to revoke Vigil's house arrest.
Myers had received a copy of a traffic ticket, but hadn't seen the Tempe police report, body-camera footage and ankle-monitor data Green planned to use in his argument.
Jason Gronski, Vigil's attorney, said he hadn't received the ankle-monitor data either and argued it would be improper for Green to proceed until he'd had a chance to review it.
Green apologized, saying he believed Gronski had received the data but would make sure to share it after the hearing.
One of several 'Goons' trials scheduled to start on Election Day
Police say Lord's attackers were the "Gilbert Goons," a group of teenagers who had carried out assaults throughout the region.
A December 2023 investigation by The Arizona Republic tied Lord's death to the Goons, prompting police to reopen beating cases and start new ones.
Treston Billey, William "Owen" Hines, Jacob Meisner, Talan Renner, Taylor Sherman, Dominic Turner and Talyn Vigil were arrested in March 2024 and charged in connection with Lord's murder. Hines, who was a minor when the attack happened, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 12 years in prison in May 2025. The others have pleaded not guilty, and their trials remain pending.

Meisner's trial would be the first and is scheduled to begin in November despite his attorney's recent request for a six-month delay to interview approximately 30 remaining witnesses.
"I can't understand how it would take months to do 30 interviews," Myers said during a Sept. 15 hearing and added that he expected prosecutors and defense attorneys to complete them within a six-week span before trial would commence.
Myers set Meisner's trial to begin on the morning of Nov. 3.
