Night Owl Pizza and Drinks in Tempe is searching for a taxidermy deer head after it was stolen off the wall by a customer, the restaurant said.
At 9:53 p.m. on Sept. 21, a customer was seen on surveillance footage entering the restaurant and speaking with a host before sitting down, according to Crystal Hope, a video editor and artist who often posts about unsolved crimes at shops and restaurants on X.
The man, who has not been identified, ordered two drinks and was seen positioning a bike near a patio exit, Hope said.
The man closed out his tab and is seen taking the deer head off the wall, in footage posted by Hope. He then slipped out a door through the bathrooms, "and disappeared into the night with the mount," Hope said.
"It has some sentimental
value to us," Night Owl operating partner Logan Purser said about the mule deer head. "It originally belonged to the grandfather of one of our partners before eventually finding its way onto the wall at Night Owl."
Though the artwork and assorted trinkets across on the walls are anchored down, "unfortunately, people trying to walk off with things isn’t out of the norm for us," Purser explained.
Night Owl is offering a $250 gift card, merch and "all our love to the person who helps us catch this guy!" their post on X read.
Anyone with information was asked to email info@nightowlaz.com.
As of Oct. 5, no report had been filed with Tempe police regarding the theft, spokesperson Jessica Ells said.
