A female hiker was in critical condition after her core body temperature reached 104 degrees while hiking Camelback Mountain.
Phoenix firefighters were dispatched around 11 a.m. on Aug. 16 to the Echo Canyon Trailhead at Camelback Mountain for a hiker experiencing a medical emergency, according to a news release. Crews found the woman about halfway up the mountain.
She told crews she had become overheated and could not make her way down. The woman was hoisted off the mountain by helicopter, the release stated.
At the trailhead, firefighters used cold-water immersion therapy because the woman's core temperature had reached 104 degrees and she was in an "altered state," according to the release. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Fire officials
did not identify the woman.
