The discovery of human remains near Crystal Rapid on the Colorado River has been officially confirmed.
Grand Canyon National Park law enforcement rangers responded after the remains were found on Sept. 14, the U.S. Department of Interior said in a Sept. 15 email to The Arizona Republic.
National Park Service personnel recovered the remains and transferred them to the Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office, the department said.
No additional information was available.
The discovery came as crews continued to search for missing hiker Tim Smith, who was unaccounted for after a flash flood at the Grand Canyon on Aug. 29.
