Two people are in custody after unlawfully entering the Scottsdale Airport in an attempt to evade officers, according to police.
At around 11 p.m. Oct. 17, the Phoenix Police Department tried to stop a vehicle connected to a street racing group, according to spokesperson Chris Berrelleza.
The driver failed to yield, and Phoenix police's Air Support Unit provided assistance with aerial surveillance, Berrelleza said. The air unit watched the car enter Scottsdale and come to a stop at a locked security gate at the Scottsdale Airport.
Once cornered by officers, the driver reversed into one of the detectives' vehicles before driving through an access gate on the west side of the airport, according to Scottsdale Police Department spokesperson Aaron Bolin.
The driver then briefly drove onto the tarmac before crashing into a private hangar and into a plane inside, damaging both, Bolin said.
A man and woman exited the vehicle and ran towards the tarmac. A Taser was deployed when the man actively resisted officers, Berrelleza said.
Liberty Dawn Still, 33, and Michael Gregory Wall, 24, were successfully taken into custody and booked into jail for multiple felony charges related to the incident, Berrelleza said.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was investigating the pair trespassing at the airport, Berrelleza said.
Scottsdale officers responded to assist Phoenix police by securing the airport and taking reports of damage to the gate, private hangar, and plane, Bolin said.
Airport operations were not affected during the incident, Bolin said.
