Food and Wine just released "The 27 Best Pizzas in America Right Now" and Phoenix had a contender.
Bianco's Margherita pizza made the list, which includes boundary-pushing pizzerias like Allday Pizza in Austin (that serves a New York pizza with a dose of New Haven) and pioneers. Naturally, Bianco belongs to the latter group. "Taken all together, they offer a complete snapshot of everything that’s great about pizza in America today," wrote Joshua David Stein.
Bianco opened his pizzeria in 1988 at the back of a grocery store and was the first to use locally milled flour. In addition to calling him an "early light" and a "beacon," Stein wrote: "Beyond the pizzeria, he’s been a mentor for pizzaioli from Joe Beddia to Robert Maleski for more than a quarter
century."
Bianco was a James Beard-winning restaurateur in 2022 and Best Chef Southwest in 2003. His pizzeria was selected as The Republic's reader's choice pizza shop this year and received a Bib Gourmand from Michelin in August 2026.
