Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boys’ and girls’ athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in Arizona Interscholastic Association-sanctioned sports the previous week. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls below (print readers can find the polls with this story online at azcentral.com/sports/high-schools). Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Republic on Saturday, Oct. 3. Girls
London Aldous, Gilbert Perry, volleyball, Jr.:
She had 22 digs in a 3-0 win over Goodyear Millennium on Sept. 21 and 11 digs in a 3-0 win over Chandler Hamilton on Sept. 24.
Holland Nye, Tucson Salpointe Catholic, swimming, Jr.: She won the 100 breast (1:05.81) and 200 free (1:56.66) at the Eagle Invite in Paradise Valley on Sept. 26, moving up to No. 3 in the state for the 100 breast and No. 8 for the 200 free.
Alexa Montoya, Gilbert Mesquite, flag football, So: She was 18-for-27 passing with 303 yards and six touchdowns, also adding 126 yards and one rushing touchdown, in a 48-6 win over Phoenix Skyline on Sept. 22. She also was 18-for-30 passing for 236 yards and five touchdowns, with 82 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown, in a 42-0 win over San Tan Valley Combs.
Boys
Nash Yogurtian, Gilbert Highland, golf, Jr.: He won the Sandcrane National High School Invitational at Soule Park Golf Club in California on Sept. 25, shooting 5-under 139 to lead a field of 50 golfers.
Ulisses Acosta, Lakeside Blue Ridge, soccer, Jr.: He had seven saves in a 3-0 win over St. Johns on Sept. 23.
Jamerrius Anthony, Phoenix Cortez, football, Sr.: He ran 30 times for 220 yards and two touchdowns, completed 6 of 11 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown, had 11 tackles and forced a fumble on a sack that he recovered in a 26-21 win over Camp Verde on Sept. 25. He also recovered Camp Verde's onside kick to end the game.
