One of Tempe's longest-running independent coffee shops is closing its doors after 24 years.
Gold Bar Espresso owners Karen and Dennis Miller announced in social media posts on July 26 that the cafe was closed "effective immediately."
"It has been an honor and privilege to be part of this incredible community for the past three decades. We are filled with so much love and gratitude as we end this chapter," read the post shared to Gold Bar Espresso's Instagram and Facebook pages.
Dedicated regulars had previously raised money in an attempt to save the cafe, but the owners shared in the post that they would be returning all the donations they received.
"We apologize that we were unable to say goodbye in person, but hope our paths will continue to cross
in the days ahead," read the social media post.
Fans share memories as Gold Bar Espresso closes
Dozens of people commented well wishes for the owners and thanked them for their memories of the cafe.
"Gold Bar is the first coffee shop we found when we moved to this side of town 9 years ago. This place holds such a special place in our hearts. You guys are irreplaceable," wrote one Instagram user.
"I wrote most of my dissertation at Gold Bar. There was a time when I could walk in any day, any time and be sure at least one of my friends was already there or about to show up. I cherish the stained glass, the natural sunlight, the friendly people, and the best chai in town," wrote another.
