Four Peaks Brewery is a metro Phoenix staple. Their flagship, award-winning Scottish ale, Kilt Lifter, can be found almost anywhere you can get a beer in the Valley, from baseball games to gas stations.
Around October, the brewery releases their cult classic, fall-spiced dark beer: the Pumpkin Porter. Their website boasts that "hordes of beer fans eagerly await its arrival each year" and that "it's not really autumn until that first sip of Pumpkin Porter."
But for people looking to go beyond the brews, Four Peaks Brewery's 8th Street Pub in Tempe offers another annual tradition that is sure to get them in the mood for the spooky season ahead. Their haunted brewery tour has been running since 2019, and during it, guests are able to go behind the scenes
and into rooms where people have seen (and felt!) something supernatural lurking.
They claim that up to seven spirits call their 1892 building home and that Four Peaks staff has experienced unexplainable phenomena since they purchased the building in the mid 1990s.
Members of the staff report they've seen figures that disappear the moment you turn your back, heard the names of their loved ones whispered at night and in one case, and been physically pushed into a room by seemingly no one.
"We tell the staff, like everyone who starts here, it's a big building. A. You're going to get lost. B. Don't get scared, it's fine and C. there are ghosts everywhere though," Carter Nacke, Pub Events Manager at Four Peaks Brewing, told Valley 101.
But is it paranormal or publicity?
This week on Valley 101, a podcast by The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com, we go on a ghost hunt. We share the mysterious happenings of the popular pub and shed some light on the history of the building that might be the root of the hauntings.
