A child died at Lake Powell after falling overboard from a boat and being struck by the vessel, according to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the child suffered fatal injuries caused by the incident.
The accident was reported around 12:07 p.m. on July 30 at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The agency did not say exactly where on the lake the accident occurred.
National Park Service rangers were the first to respond, providing emergency medical care before transporting the child to Antelope Marina.
Page Fire Department personnel met the boat at the marina, and an Intermountain Health air ambulance flew the child to Page Hospital. The Coconino County Medical Examiner's Office later
took custody of the child.
Authorities have not released the child’s name, age or hometown. They also have not said who was operating the boat, how the child fell or which part of the boat struck the child.
The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
